INTRO INTO LASHES

INTRO INTO LASHES

What are Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash Extensions are single individual synthetic lashes applied skillfully & directly onto your natural eyelashes. They are bonded to each natural lash with a special adhesive which leaves them lightweight & they will feel just like your own. They are available in a range of lengths, thicknesses and curvatures, which can be tailored depending on what look your are trying to achieve. I do not believe in 'One Look Fits All' so whether you are looking for subtle & sophisticated or jaw dropping volume - we will work together to find the right look for you.

What are the different types of Eyelash Extensions?

Part of my Ethos is only to use Quality Products and for this reason I stock Synthetic Mink Eyelashes from only the best suppliers. These are some of the highest quality on the market and I would not use anything else. They are soft to touch, weightless when applied and look beautifully natural.
Additionally they are not tested on animals or contain animal derived products making them completely vegan.

Are Eyelash Extensions for me?

I believe all women should be able to live a life with beautiful eyelashes! My clients are of all ages, face shapes and eye shapes – and they all have eyelashes they love. I am very approachable and won’t force anything upon you that you don’t want. If you are considering eyelashes for the first time and are unsure about anything, do not hesitate to contact me and I am more than happy to discuss the options with you either on the telephone or face to face. Your new eyes start here!

What can I expect at my Consultation Appointment?

When you arrive at my private Lash & Brow Studio in St Marychurch, Torquay where I offer free one-to-one consultation appointments for all new sets of Eyelash Extensions.

Typically taking 15 minutes we will go through your desires, talk about your eyelashes and discuss some of the ongoing care requirements (which are minimal as you can find out here). You will also get a chance to see my products and discuss any concerns you may have.

I will check the health of your eye & lashline as it depends on your natural lashes which extensions you will be able to have. I will also perform a Patch Test which is a small test to rule out an allergic reaction as much as possible to any of the products I use during the treatment. Click more for more information on Patch Tests.

We will then also find a convenient time to book you in for you full eyelash treatment, which will typically take up to 1.5 hours for Classic Lashes and up to 2.5 hours for Russian Volume.

For further information please check out my FAO, as well as my Pre-Arrival Checklist. And of course if you have any further questions please feel free to contact me.

CLASSIC LASHES VS RUSSIAN VOLUME

CLASSIC LASHES VS RUSSIAN VOLUME

The easiest way of explaining the difference between Semi Permanent Individual Classic Eye Extensions & Russian Volume Lashes is to show you first.

Lash & Brow Workshop in Torquay explains the difference between Classic Lashes & Russian Volume Eyelash Extensions.

So what is the difference?

As you will be able to see the Classic Lash Extensions is a 1:1 method meaning that 1 Extensions will be bonded onto 1 natural lash.

Russian Volume or the Russian Layering Technique (also called 2D-6D lashes) is a multi-lash technique which consist of applying multiple lash extensions to each natural eyelash in a fanned shape.

What does it look like?

Classic lashes give you a beautiful natural look and are perfect for Clients who have already a lot of lashes. Russian Volume gives clients a lighter, fluffier and fuller look. These are perfect for Clients who don't have a lot of lashes (or possibly sparse lashes or bald spots) or just want a more dramatic look.
Both Classic Lashes as Russian Volume must be styled in a way which compliments your eye shape.

How many Lash Extensions will be applied?

Applying muliple lash extensions with the Russian Volume Technique can result in having 200-500 eyelash extensions applied to each eye, rather than the regular 80-100 extensions per eye with the classic 1:1 method. The extensions used are even lighter and finer than standard eyelash extensions, which means multiple lashes can be applied without damaging the natural lashes, looking "clumpy" or feeling too heavy and unnatural.
A 2D effect gives approximately 200 lashes per eye, 3D approximately 300 lashes and this continues up to 6D.

What are Hybrid Lashes?

Hybrid Lashes are a mix between Classic & Russian Volume. A strong lash backbone is created using Classic Lashes with Russian Volume feathered throughout to give a soft, fluffy finish.

What is it like to wear Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash Extensions are perfect for everyday wear or for an active lifestyle. They are waterproof, durable and comfortable to wear. They are so comfortable in fact that you should not be able to feel them at all when applied correctly.

You can enjoy having long, beautiful and thicker lashes 24 hours a day for weeks at a time without the need for mascara. Yet your eyes will always look glamorous and you may even find that you will get away with wearing less make up altogether.

What does Semi Permanent mean?

Lash Extensions can be worn for many months (or even years!), however a full set will generally last  4-6 weeks, depending on your natural lash growth cycle. To keep your lashes at their very best we recommend infill maintenance every 2-3 weeks.

Are you unsure whether to try Classic Lashes, Hybrids or Russian Volume?

PRE ARRIVAL CHECKLIST

Eyelash extensions should last for 2-3 weeks (before they require an Infill).
However, in order to get this level of retention there are some important steps to take before you arrive at your appointment.

Please:

  • Arrive at your appointment with squeaky clean make up free eyes.

  • Do not wear any waterproof mascara 48 hours prior to the treatment as it can be very hard to fully remove.

  • If the lashes are not completely clean at your lash appointment it is likely your extensions won't last as long.

  • Avoid drinking coffee before your treatment. This makes your eyes flicker and it difficult to apply individual extensions.

  • Avoid oily facial moisturisers or foundation prior to your treatment.

  • Do not have a spray-tan less than 24 hours prior to your treatment.

  • Schedule your Botox Procedure minimum 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

  • Be prepared to remove your Contact Lenses prior to your treatment.

  • I have a choice of music but feel free to bring your own & some headphones if you prefer to completely zone out.

  • Turn off electrical devices during your treatment. You won’t be able to check them once we have started.

AFTERCARE

  • Straight after your Lash Appointment
It is advised to wash the lashes & general eye area after application to ensure any adhesive vapours & residue of other products are completely removed.

  • Lashes must be kept Nice & Clean
To help you look after your lashes you will be given a complementary Aftercare Pack including a Brush & a Cleanser specifically formulated to care for your Eyelash Extensions. You will use these to give your lashes and especially the lash line a daily wash. After washing your lashes, pat down with a towel (do not rub) & let dry naturally (or use the cold setting on your hairdryer) Once dry, brush them with a CLEAN mascara wand (also provided) to brush them in shape. Keeping your lashes clean will improve retention, it will protect the health of your eyes and they will generally look much nicer.

  • Mascara & other Oil Based Products
Oil based products & Natural Skin Oils will break down the bond between the lash glue and the lash extension. Never apply mascara or (liquid or gel) eyeliner to your extensions, or upper eyelid. Both will adhere to the extensions, cannot be easily cleansed off and will create a breeding ground for bacteria. Make sure you use water-based (so oil free) products (including make up remover!). Make up wipes contain often oil too. Avoid cotton wool as it will stick.

  • Excessive Touching, Pulling the Extensions & Lash Curlers
Do not do/use any of these as they will damage the natural lashes. Never try to remove your extensions yourself.

  • Infill Appointments
These are recommended every 2-3 weeks to keep your lashes looking nice and full. Individual lash extensions do not cause damage to your natural lashes and will just fall out when you lose your natural lashes. After 2-3 weeks the premature lashes (which we do not lash) will have grown into healthy mature lashes and are ready to be lashed. This cycle repeats itself month after month so there will always be a constant supply of healthy lashes to apply extensions to.
A full Price List including Infill Prices can be found here.

  • Specialised Products
Supermarkets etc do not tend to offer Specialised Products to care for Eyelash Extensions, hence why I do. Products such as Lash Cleanser, Lash Brushes, Oil Free Make Up Remover etc can be bought inexpensively from Lash & Brow Workshop so you are able to continuously care for your Eyelash Extensions. Clean Lashes are Happy Lashes.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will eyelash extensions cause any damage to my natural eyelashes?

No, your eyelash extensions will not cause damage as long as they are applied correctly by a trained professional who can assess your lashes and create a tailor made set using the correct lengths, diameters & curls leaving you to wear them week after week (and even year after year!).
You should be able to brush through your lashes with none stuck together & they should never cause you any pain or irritation. â€‹

Why do I need Infills?

You may not realise it but your eyelashes, just like the rest of your hair on your body, are in a constant growth cycle.

There are 3 phases of growth: the Anagen, the Catagen & Telogen Phase. It is in this final phase where the hair follicle remains dormant until it starts to grow again. It is at this point where the base of your eyelash will break free from the root, the eyelash will shed and a new eyelash in the Anagen Phase will take its place again.

Everyone however has a unique hair growth cycle meaning that some people have quicker or slower cycles than others. It may be dependent on your genes, your age, your lifestyle and even the time of year.
On average we lose 2-5 eyelashes a day on each eye. This would mean that we lose approximately:
- 21 lashes after 7 days
- 42 lashes after 14 days

- 63 lashes after 21 days

This is the reason that Infills are recommend every 2-3 weeks as at that stage your lashes will become a little bit 'gappy' and won't look as full. Although you have no control over your lash cycle, it is essential you follow the Aftercare Instructions given to prolong your lashes as much as possible.

What is a Lash Shed?

During the Spring and Autumn, humans, just like animals, shed hair from all over their bodies – including our lashes. We may assume that you will lose your lashes more quickly which may mean you may need to schedule infills more frequently. However, after a couple of weeks our bodies calm down and we are generally blessed with healthier looking lashes.

Will I need a break from having Infills?

Not if a professional has correctly applied them and continuously ensures your natural lashes health is paramount. Always return for infills within the time set by your therapist, leave them to fall out naturally, or get them removed professionally. Never attempt to remove the extensions yourself. This will damage and cause harm to your natural lashes.

Why do you not offer a mobile lash service?

As a lash artist I have to ensure the temperature and humidity I work in is continuously controlled otherwise this affects the curing of the lashes on application. The advanced adhesives I use are very sensitive and if I were to do house calls I have no control over these factors in someone else’s home. I strive for perfection and I do not feel I could ensure this outside of my beauty room. I also feel that like most luxury treatments being able to visit a salon is the perfect excuse for some relaxation and you time. You will be able to listen to some gentle music in a cosy room rather than having to listen to your washing machine or the kids playing in the background.

Why have I lost more lashes on one eye than the other?

This is always an obvious indication that the client sleeps on that side during the night. It puts pressure onto the bonds of the eyelash extensions and can cause them to fall off. I know its hard but try not to sleep on your face. Your extensions are delicate, so “face planting” in your pillow will cause your extensions to fall out where they are being “rubbed out” in the night. Silk pillows are also recommended.

Are Eyelash Extensions suitable for Holiday?

Yes! Eyelash Extensions are ideal for holiday as they can be worn when swimming. Your eyes will always look glamorous and give the appearance of wearing mascara. Do bear in mind that your lashes may possibly be exposed to heat, sun cream & a lot more towel padding which may reduce retention.

If this is something which would worry you or your holiday is a long one, you may want to consider having a Lash Lift as an alternative.
